Befitting a blog called 50 Plus Journey it only seemed fitting that one of my earliest posts would be about vitamins.

It's just one part of life but getting older takes its toll on your health. Creaky knees, an expanding waistline, receding hairline, muscle loss, high cholesterol, dental issues, the list goes on.
It seems that beside exercise more, eating better and more sleep that those vitamin pills might be worth a go at least as some kind of preventative measure.

Now I am no expert on vitamin pills and whether they work or not. What I do know is that I am taking quite a few and I don't really know how much positive impact if any they are having.

My current regime includes:
- Curcumin with turmeric
- Calcium with K2 and Vitamin D
- Fish oil
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin C
- CoQ10
- Glucosmine HCL
- Energy and Hair combination
I've also used bilberry with lutein (for eye health) and collagen tablets (for skin health) in the past so I am willing to try all sorts of things.
For me I probably regard the top 5 as the items I will have consistently without stopping.

The Curcumin with turmeric is for joint and knee health and I do believe they make a positive impact for me. My knees have got progressively worse over time so anything that may help is worth a go.
The Calcium with K2 and Vitamin D is what I call a preventative and anything that helps my bones as I get older I am willing to take. This is one of the more expensive items but I think it is worth it for me.
Fish oil appears to have lots of health benefits (please do your own research) and as fish is quite expensive I see taking fish oil as an alternative path to making sure I am regualrly getting some of the benefits of fish on an ongoing and continual basis.

Vitamin D deficiency is an ever growing occurrence as people stay out of the sun. I was cronically low. Anyway, depending on what you read (please do your own research) Vitamin D also has a huge range of positive benefits to your health. Vitamin D is also one of the cheapest vitamin pills you can purchase so there is no reason to forego Vitamin D.
Vitamin C is another inexpensive vitamin that claims to assist with healthy skin, improve collagen production, help with gum health, aid iron absorption and defend against seasonal ills and chills. Whether it's actually working or not you have little reason not to take vitamin C as its very affordable.
So all up, despite not knowing whether all of these pills are having a positive impact I'll continue plodding along taking them. At the very least it could be having a placebo affect and even that would be a benefit.
